Doors
Our doors are constructed
from the finest materials starting with vertical grain,
western red cedar* for the stiles and rails (3/4" standard,
1" optional). Our panels consist of tongue and groove
cedar* or 1/2" marine-grade mahogany plywood. For the
frame, a product by Kimberly Bay, we use a species of pine
which is remarkably clear and more stable than conventional
pine. It also has no finger joints! Finally, we insulate
with rigid polystyrene and laminate the back with a 1/4"
exterior luan.
All components are joined using polyurethane adhesive (the
strongest available) and screws (not nails). All stiles
and rails are screwed together from behind. This will prevent
any boards from separating or pulling away.
"Subtle Differences"
- 1/2" plywood panels applied vertically on our paint grade so that the grain will carry through the door as if it were a true swinging door.
- We build our own doors from the front back. The results? No nail holes to fill and no screws to plug, just the natural beauty of the wood that you have selected.
- 32" top sections allowing for larger windows as opposed to 24" sections which make the glass appear disproportionate at the top.
- A 9 1/4" bottom rail as opposed
to 5 1/2". The makes the door look much more substantial
overall. Optional 1" overlay creates much more dramatic
shadow lines.
